1.General Information
and Academic Administration
Pangasinan
State University, The university was founded in its current form in
1979. PSU is notable for its many locations throughout the province of Pangasinan. It is
mandated to provide advanced instruction in the arts, agricultural and natural
sciences as well as in technological and professional fields. Its main
campus is located in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Other
campuses are located in Alaminos City, Asingan, Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta, San Carlos City, Santa Maria, and Urdaneta City and the president of PSU is
Dr. Dexter R. Buted.
Pangasinan State University has 9 campuses that have several majors
ranging from kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, senior high
school and college, which they also have good administration in their schools,
provide a learning environment conducive enough for their students to make them
competent and creative students. In their academic plans and school
development, they have a good vision and mission to become an ASEAN Premier
State University in 2020 and the Pangasinan State University, through
instruction, research, extension and production, committees to develop highly
principled, morally upright, innovative And globally competent individuals
capable of meeting the needs of industry, public service and civil society. And
all this is possible with the support and assistance of the government,
parents, teachers, and students themselves. Good thing in this school, parents
have the greatest role in supporting the needs of the students. They not only
support when students come to their homes but also support their schools. The
leadership of Pangasinan State University embraces the philosophy of education
of the Philippines that education is directed towards citizenship and better
livelihoods and the United Nations statement that education for all gives
access to quality education. In terms of the faculty staffs, they have a good
relationship with each other. We can’t deny their good teaching performance and
their enthusiasm in their profession but their good relationship shows how they
care with each other through having peer-evaluation and even having a sharing
of knowledge and teaching methods. Moreover, schools also provide professional
development through workshops on teaching methods. In terms of their curriculum
and instruction, they ensure that the curriculum, which comes from the ministry
of education, will reflect the vision and mission of their school. They use
curriculum K to 12 in their education. Nothing else they have Internet,
servers, computer labs and easily accessible LCD projectors used as classroom
instructions. Another good thing in their evaluation to the students, is that
they have an evaluation of these characters to the students. In addition, they
provide extra-curricular activities that are also assessed. Additionally, in
terms of their facilities, they have accessible library and laboratories which
have complete equipment and resources. With their physical environment, they
have good buildings, clean and fresh surroundings, and satisfying services.

2.1 Teaching Methods
For teaching methods in PSU Integrated
School the teachers use
expository method. Students should active in that class. The teacher interact
the students with some steps such as warm up to make the students interest to
follow the class, then the teacher gives
some explanation about the material that will be disscusses clearly it can make
sure the students understand about the material, and
sometimes the teacher used group activity after the students got the point about the materials, teacher gave some excercises to the students.
2.2 Learning materials and
innovation
The teachers
have already prepared the lesson plan and all the materials before teaching. The
material choosen by the mentor at school. We can choose the material according
to the text
book. In teaching process, teacher has to explain clearly to make all students
understand about the materials.
2.3
Sources of learning and technology
To support
the the teaching and learning process, teacher should have sources of learning
and should be able to use the technology. Sources of learning is the text book,
some teachers have worksheet and extra
sheets which made by theirself, it depends on the subjects.
If teachers want to add some information or something, teachers can search on
website or any sources. So it can be easily for the teacher to get new
information that appropriate with the materials. Teachers should be able to
utilize the technology that has been available to vacilitate teachers and
students in learning process.
2.4 Authentic Assessment
And for assessment the teacher can provide a match that matches the
material which has been taught. The teacher can also modify the exercises in
the textbook with the excercises which they has made by themselves or exercises
that taken from other sources. The exercises is made with the aim to measure
the ability of students in answering questions that have been given based on
the material that has been studied.
3.
Teaching Plan
3.1 Curriculum
analysis
The curriculum reflects that they
now use student-centered learning or student-centered activities and lessons in
their teaching. Teacher gives their best to use the best teaching methods in
classroom teaching. According to my observations, some teachers are already
able to know about using Authentic Assessment. They often provide group
activities, psychomotor activities, and problem-solving or discovery activities.
3.2 Teaching
plan
Before the process of teaching, the mentor gave the
material to be taught. The students teacher should do a lesson plan according
to the material. And give the lesson
plan to the mentor then for correcting and suggestion.
4.
Observation on Teacher
4.1. Planning for Teaching
Teachers
should have to do lesson plan and prepare all the things needed before teaching
in the classroom.
4.2.Preparing Lessons and Materials
Preparing lesson
and materials is one of the important things to do before teaching in the
classroom. On preparing lessons, my mentor gave me the material to be taught.
And their textbooks have provided that materials. So it more easily to me to
prepare the material because I just have to search more information about the materials from the other
resource like internet.
4.3. Teaching in the Class
On August 28, 2018, I start doing
my first practice teaching. Im doing my practice teaching in grade XII
STEM DARWIN in Entrepreneurship subject with Generating
Ideas: Harnessing Logic and Creativity as the topic. This practice teaching is really challanging for me, because
this is my first time teaching in
another country and of course it’s using
english too. Im really excited to continue this teaching because my mentor is
with me. She is helping me when Im explaining the lessons. She is watching me
when I’m doing my practice teaching. Im really lucky to meet the great students
here in Philippines. Im really helped because they show a good cooperation to
me, they are really active in the process of teaching. So that’s why I can deliver the materials
easily.
4.4. Measurement and Evaluation
The teacher gives
excercises during the lesson and homework for the students in the end of the
lesson on that day. That ways to measure students
abilities on material comprehension.
5.
Teaching Practice
5.1 Procedures of teaching
We have to do
observation before doing practice teaching in the class. For first week, it was
observation time to all the seameo
students. But it depends on the school. In this college, the first day I just
did observation like a walking around the college to know the information about
this college. For the 3rd day, we did observation in class, like as teaching
assistant. It can make me know about the students’ characterisics and the
students’ problem during the lessons begin . For knowing that, teacher could know how to face the
problems. I did my first observation at first week, and on August
23, 2018, I did my first teaching in Grade XII
STEM DARWIN about Entrepreneurship, Generating
Ideas: Harnessing Logic and Creativity as the topic. On September 03, I did my
second practice teaching
with Recognizing, Assessing, and Exploting Opportunities as the topic. I can control the class and got
my confidence because this was my second time to teach, and all of the
students can pay attention to me and they understood with my explanation. They
are very smart . I had my final demonstration on September 10, with the topic still the same with the last lesson. I just continued the
lessons.
5.2 Time Management and organizing
activities
Time
management and organizing activities is one of the most important things that
teachers should have. The teacher should be able to manage the time start from
the greetings, warming up,giving explanations about the material clearly, asking
students to do the tasks, until conclude the material together with students.
By time management, the teacher can control all activities undertaken during
the learning process.
5.3 Problem Solving
There are many problems that can arise in the classroom during the teaching
and learning process. Start from the students who always late, students who
always play their mobilephone, students who always make noisy, students who
sleep, students who do not understand English language, until students who do
not care about everything in the classroom. To solve those problem, teacher
should have the best way. For example, when the teacher is teaching, there are
several students coming late and the teacher has the funny punishment for the
students. The teacher asks the students who doesn’t follow the rule of the
class to show their talents. This method is really good to be applied because
the students are also educated by this punishment. They should show their talents
for examples when they came late entering the classroom.
5.4 Classroom
management
Classroom
management can be explained as the actions and directions that teachers use to
create a successful learning environment, indeed having a positive impact on students
achieving given learning requirements and goals. It is difficult aspect of
teaching for many teachers. Teachers use classroom management to keep students
focused on learning while preventing disruption from slowing the learning
process. About classroom management, as a teacher, I should be able to controls
the class. make sure that the students should follow the lesson from begining till the last.
Give attention to the students. Teacher should be able to make the student
enjoy and feel good to attended and follow the lesson.

6.2 Procedures of practicum
As I arrived at the high school
building, I met the princinple of high school, and then she welcomed me very
nicely.
For economic education students, the
principle divided all of the economic education
into three students with two supervisors. I would be with Mrs. Maam
Mady Sapitula MBA aldita and irca with another supervisor. I met Mrs.
Mady. She welcomed me very nice and she is very humble person. She took me to her
class which was a religious class and introduced me to the high school
students. I observed Mrs. Mady’s class for an hour, I also
learned about how the condition in the classroom, how Mrs. Mady taught the
lesson, and how the students’ responses
to the lesson.
Mrs. Mady is an Entrepreneurship and Religious teacher. She teaches Entrepreneurship
four days in a week. Iam under her for teaching entrepreneurship.
There were several points that we have discussed:
- I will do my observation at this
week in the class for religious subject and also entrepreneurship subject
- I will do my practice teaching
an hour a day from Monday to Thursday, from 4 to 5 p.m. I
will just accompany maam Mady on Friday in the another class when she is
teaching religious.
- I have to come early before do
observation or practice teaching
- I should do a lesson plan and
discuss it with Mrs. Mady before implemented it in the classroom.
- Maam mady asks me to do my
practice teaching for Chapter two and chapter three.
6.3 Outcomes of practicum
A.
The students are able to Identity the various sources of ideas for entrepreneurial
ventures
B.
Discuss the
alternative methods for generating ideas for a new venture
C.
Reflect some
techniques in creative problem solving
D.
Explain the process of
recognizing opportunities
E.
Explain the important
factors in opportunity recognition
F.
Create an opportunity
assessment plan
G.
Discuss the different
pathways to seizing opportunities
H.
Explain the product
and development process
. They have to understand each topic about the entrepreneurship and give
an example.
6.4 The challenges of practicum
When I taught the students in the
classroom, there were several challenges that I have to face. For example:
First, most of the students here are
very fluent in speaking English. Therefore, I have to practice more and use as
many vocabulary as I can. It is very different in my country, Indonesia where
the students in senior high school still cannot speak English fluently.
Second, some of the students are very
shy and don’t want to speak their opinion when I asked them about their
perspective of the lesson or asked them about the previous lesson. In this
case, I choose them randomly from their absence.
And last but not least, about the subject that I have to teach.
I teach Entrepreneurship which is not same with my major. My major is economic education and
in my home university,. This is the biggest challenge for me since I have to
deliver the materials about entrepreneurship.
6.5 Overall impression
In
conclusion, after I had finished teaching the high school students, I felt so
happy. I hope it would be beneficial for the students. I hope that the students
can improve their reading skill and also understand what has been taught by me
in the classroom. I also sa sad because I need to go back and I dont know
when I will meet them again.
6.6
Suggestions for Future
Improvement
I have no many suggestions for the school, because the
school is already very good
and has a
good skill in teaching so that they can conduct and handle the learning process and
deliver the lesson in the best way. But in my opinion, for facilities, PSU needs to improve their
facilities such as LCD, AC inside the classroom so both the students and the terchers will be comfortable
when they are in the classroom.
